Academic Medical Scribe Training and Curriculum

STEP 1 – Core Academic Curriculum

All students start their medical scribe education with a well-rounded and comprehensive curriculum that provides them the fundamental framework to successfully complete a collegiate-level medical scribe program. The curriculum is built around the cornerstone 16 hour “Comprehensive – Medical Scribe Training Course“.

Step 2 – Medical Specialty-Specific Curriculum

Upon completion of this course, students then move onto training and certification in their chosen medical specialty. Specialty-specific medical scribe training curriculum ranges in length depending on the medical specialty. Students will be introduced to and learn relevant specialty-specific terminology, physical exam findings, pharmacology, coding & billing, and more. Upon completion of this step, the student will be prepared for an externship in the medical specialty they studied.

Step 3 – Certification

Scribe certification is awarded to candidates who successfully complete the requisite medical scribe courses. Your institution may choose to award the certification upon completion of just the courses or upon completion of the courses and an externship.
